DeepSeek teams up with Huawei on chip programming tools, aiming for independence from Nvidia
Chinese artificial intelligence company DeepSeek announced on Wednesday that it has teamed up with technology giant Huawei Technologies to develop programming tools for Huawei’s Ascend chips, as Reuters reports.
According to the announcement published on the company’s official WeChat account, DeepSeek will open-source infrastructure for the Ascend platform, including the high-level programming language called TileLang, together with the relevant computation and communication libraries.
According to DeepSeek, TileLang offers ‘a simpler programming model’ compared with Nvidia’s CUDA, improving development efficiency and simplifying code logic — an effort to give Chinese developers a viable alternative to Nvidia’s closed ecosystem.
The move is the latest sign that Chinese technology companies are deepening ties among themselves as they seek alternatives to Nvidia’s ecosystem, at a time when chip export restrictions have pushed Beijing towards technological independence.
