Demo meets Italian ambassador, strategic partnership for security and European integration in focus

Interior Minister Ervin Demo met on Tuesday with Italy’s ambassador, Marco Alberti, with further strengthening of the strategic partnership between Albania and Italy in the security field in focus.

In a reaction on social media, Demo stressed that cooperation between the two countries rests on a consolidated framework of bilateral agreements and protocols in security, migration and border management.

“At its core are joint investigations and operations against serious and organized crime, drug and human trafficking, as well as the prevention of cross-border criminal activity,” Demo said.

Demo also praised Italian support and expertise in strengthening investigative and inter-institutional capacities, the professional development of law-enforcement agencies and the improvement of operational tools.

“This joint work strengthens citizens’ security and helps us fulfill Albania’s commitments under Chapter 24 of the EU accession negotiations,” he said.
