Democratic senators sharply attack Trump’s war in Iran: “Congress must cut off the funding”
Democratic senators have sharply denounced the United States’ war in Iran, placing the blame directly on President Donald Trump, as Al Jazeera reports.
Senator Chris Van Hollen, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, declared on the social network X that Trump “continues to hide the casualties among the troops”, while “sending up to 10,000 more troops into his illegal war of choice in Iran”. “When Trump says he plans to renew the war next month, believe him,” Van Hollen wrote, adding that “Congress must cut off the funding”.
Senator Chris Murphy, also a committee member, called the cost of the war “extraordinary”, describing it as “catastrophic and incompetently run”. According to him, the cost is seen most clearly in fuel prices: diesel costs almost twice its pre-war level, and last week the U.S. diesel price reached a record $6.53 a gallon.
On the same day, the G7 countries agreed to release 100 million barrels of oil and fuel products in the coming weeks, starting with “considerable” quantities of diesel to ease pressure on prices — a decision Trump had publicly demanded from Europe. But analysts warn that releasing reserves will bring only limited relief in the face of the global diesel market stress.
