Hauser & Wirth opens its Palo Alto branch with “Calder | O’Keeffe”: the friendship of two giants of art in the inaugural exhibition
Hauser & Wirth, one of the world’s most powerful art gallery groups, opens its new branch in Palo Alto, California today, with an inaugural exhibition dedicated to the friendship of two giants of American art, Alexander Calder and Georgia O’Keeffe, as Palo Alto Online reports.
The “Calder | O’Keeffe” exhibition brings works by both artists together with archival materials that illuminate their relationship. The new gallery in downtown Palo Alto, at 201 Hamilton Ave., is the 18th on the group’s international list in Europe, Asia and North America. Besides the exhibition space, it will also have a bookshop, in the tradition of the group known for its publications, monographs and artist catalogues.
The opening day is accompanied by a festive programme: exhibition walks with Alexander S. C. Rower, president of the Calder Foundation and the artist’s grandson, with Dr. Laura Wertheim Joseph of the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum and with Alexander Nemerov of Stanford University; book and poetry readings with Musa Mayer, daughter of the painter Philip Guston, and Clark Coolidge, DJ music, a Stanford Taiko performance and food from Bay Area traders, Palo Alto Online writes.
Admission is free. The “Calder | O’Keeffe” exhibition opens today, October 3, from 11:00 to 18:00.
