Disney licenses its films to Netflix: the five “Ice Age” films, the “Percy Jackson” series and Pixar titles come to the platform
Disney has agreed to license a package of films and series to Netflix, including the five existing films of the animated “Ice Age” series, as well as the series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” and “Will Trent”, as Reuters reports, citing both companies on Friday.
The five “Ice Age” films and the first two seasons of the Disney+ original series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” will be available globally on Netflix from 4 October for three months — a move that precedes the cinema release of the sixth film in the series, “Ice Age: Boiling Point”, early next year.
The deal also includes a selection of Disney and Pixar films, among them “Soul”, “Elio” and “Raya and the Last Dragon”, which will come to Netflix from early 2027, with different launch dates and regions.
These are non-exclusive licences: the titles will also remain on Disney’s own platforms (Disney+ and Hulu), and Disney says the short windows on Netflix are intended to raise attention for new seasons and upcoming films. Nevertheless, Disney-branded titles remain largely exclusive to its streaming platforms and television channels.
The deal expands Netflix’s access to Disney content, at a time when the platform is enriching its library through licensing agreements — including the July deal with AMC Global Media to bring the series “The Walking Dead” to the platform, as Reuters notes.
