Driving while armed, 38-year-old arrested, pistol and 23 cartridges seized (NAME)

A 38-year-old man has been arrested in Tirana after being caught driving a vehicle while carrying a firearm and combat ammunition with him.

The police operation codenamed “Gjurma” was finalised by the services of Police Commissariat No. 2, in cooperation with the Tirana Special Operational Force, based on information obtained through operational channels.

During the intervention on “Perlat Rexhepi” street, the officers stopped the vehicle driven by citizen Denis Koni, 38 years old, resident in Durres.

During the search of the vehicle, a pistol firearm was found in the 38-year-old’s waist bag, while 23 cartridges were found under the driver’s seat and seized.

The weapon and ammunition were seized as material evidence.

At the end of the police actions, Denis Koni was arrested in flagrante delicto and is charged with the criminal offence of “Unlawful possession of weapons, explosive weapons and ammunition”.

The procedural materials have been referred to the Prosecution for further action.
