Egypt’s President Meets CIA Chief: Iran Crisis Should Be Resolved Through Diplomacy

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met in Cairo on Sunday with CIA Director John Ratcliffe, calling for a comprehensive agreement to resolve the crisis with Iran and restore stability in the region.

According to the Egyptian presidency, Sisi expressed Cairo’s full support for diplomatic efforts, stressing the importance of guaranteeing the freedom of international navigation.

The Egyptian president also said his country opposes any attack on the security and sovereignty of Arab states. He underlined that the region’s crises must be handled through diplomacy and by addressing their root causes.

The meeting took place at a time of high tensions in the Middle East, following the escalation of the conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran. Tehran has retaliated with attacks on targets in regional countries hosting U.S. military assets, and has also closed the Strait of Hormuz, a key corridor for oil and gas transport.

According to the information provided, an agreement reached in June between Washington and Tehran to halt hostilities and reopen the Strait of Hormuz later failed due to disagreements over navigation and security in the waterway.

During the meeting, Sisi also called for the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
