Elected to lead the Supreme Court, who is Ilir Panda

Ilir Panda has been elected the new president of the Supreme Court. The meeting of the Supreme Court’s judges voted in favor of Panda’s candidacy, as he was the only candidate in the race.

Who is Ilir Panda:

Ilir Panda was born in Tirana on August 8, 1962. He graduated as a lawyer from the Faculty of Law of the University of Tirana in 1986, and has also completed several postgraduate qualifications organized by Albanian, European and United States institutions. He holds the scientific title “Doctor”.

He has worked in several sectors of the justice system, starting from the prosecution bodies, the Codification Directorate at the Ministry of Justice, as a lawyer, as a lecturer at the School of Magistrates and at other higher education institutions. He was Minister of Justice in 1999-2000 and Deputy President of the High Council of Justice in 2003-2007.

He has taken part as an author in many working groups for the drafting and revision of legislation, for the drafting of commentaries, manuals and bulletins, as well as in important projects in the field of law. He is the author of many articles in the field of law in several scientific and professional journals, as well as of various translations.

Panda has also been Legal Adviser to the People’s Advocate of the Republic of Albania, a local expert for UNICEF, the Council of Europe and other organizations. He was a member of the High Council of Justice of Albania in 2002-2007, a member of the Accreditation Council of Higher Education Institutions and a member of the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
