Environmental scandal continues: clean-up at the Kasharaj reservoir, around half of the dead fish removed
Work is continuing at the Kasharaj reservoir in Lushnjë to clean up the dead fish and repair the blocked main discharge outlet.
After the damaged part was replaced with a new one, an Albpetrol machine arrived on Saturday morning to unblock the pipeline filled with mud.
Once the replacement of the damaged part of the outlet is complete, work will begin on opening the pipeline with this machine, a process that, according to specialists, takes several days.
At the same time, the cleaning of the reservoir bed from mud and dead fish is continuing with the army’s heavy vehicles, which have been working for several days to normalise the situation.
So far, the clean-up of around half of the quantity of fish from the reservoir has been carried out, despite the rise in the water level from underground sources.
Two days ago, aerial disinfection also began in Kasharaj following the death of thousands of fish, caused by the emptying of the reservoir due to works on the dam and the discharge structure.
