EU energy commissioner: We are discussing with the U.S. and the IEA when to release diesel reserves
The EU’s energy commissioner, Dan Jorgensen, said on Friday that the bloc is discussing with all members of the International Energy Agency (IEA), not only with the United States, when the time is right to release diesel reserves, as Al Jazeera reports in its liveblog on the U.S.–Iran war.
“This is one of the options we have, we have used it before and we are very likely to use it again,” Jorgensen told Euronews.
Data published by the European Commission show that 12 EU member states, including Italy, Belgium, Romania and Poland, have recorded all-time record diesel prices since the start of the U.S. war with Iran.
The discussion comes after U.S. President Donald Trump’s call on Europe to immediately open its strategic diesel reserves to bring prices down, while the supply crisis continues to weigh on European economies.
