Explosions heard near Qeshm island in Hormuz; Iran claims full military control of the strait

Explosions were heard near the island of Qeshm, in the Strait of Hormuz, as Iran said it has full military control of the strategic waterway, as Al Jazeera reports.

According to announcements by the Iranian armed forces, the Revolutionary Guard said the strait is “under Iran’s full control” and that transit through it is not permitted without Iran’s consent.

A representative of the Revolutionary Guard’s Khatam al-Anbiya headquarters, identified as Ebrahim Zolfaghari, said Iran is exercising complete military dominance over the sea, underwater and airspace of the Strait of Hormuz.

He added that any vessel seeking to pass through the strait must obtain permission from Iran, otherwise it will be considered a violation and the military forces will intervene.

Meanwhile, explosions were heard in the vicinity of Qeshm island, in the southern part of Iran. As Al Jazeera reported, the cause of the explosions has not been confirmed so far.
