Manojlović: The REC is “fixing” diaspora voting so the students’ victory is not seen
The leader of the Kreni-promeni movement, Savo Manojlović, assessed today that the proposal of the Republic Electoral Commission (REC) that polling stations in the diaspora — including those with a large time difference from Serbia — should open and close according to Serbian time is a new obstacle aimed at “fixing” voting hours on election day in order to hide the victory of the Student List, as Danas writes.
“In that way, at some polling stations voters would vote at midnight, which is a clear attempt to obstruct the electoral process, about which sources from among the professionals at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have already warned,” Manojlović wrote on social media, Danas quotes.
According to him, this decision departs from the practice so far and behind it “other, extreme intentions are hidden.” Manojlović believes it was made “with the aim that the results from polling stations in time zones where voting ends before the elections in Serbia do not reach voters in Serbia and that the scale of the student list’s victory is not seen.”
The accusations come at a time when diaspora registration for the early parliamentary elections of 25 October is breaking records — around 73,000 citizens have registered to vote abroad, up from around 40,000 in the previous elections, according to Nova.rs reporting.
