Fires set near Apollonia Park endangered homes; 2 arsonists arrested and one under investigation in Fier

Two people have been arrested and another is being prosecuted while free in Fier, suspected of causing three fire outbreaks in different areas of the county.

According to police, the fires damaged forested areas, agricultural land, fruit trees and olive groves, while also endangering homes and buildings near the affected zones.

Police announcement:

“After receiving reports of several fire outbreaks in the territory of Fier county, structures of the Fier Police Commissariat, in cooperation with structures of the Fier Police Directorate, after swift investigative and operational actions, identified 3 citizens suspected as perpetrators of the arsons.

Following investigative and procedural actions, 2 of them were arrested: P. Z., 66, suspected as the perpetrator of arson in the village of Ade, Fier; D. K., 62, suspected as the perpetrator of arson in the village of Kashisht, Fier.

Citizen D. M., 35, was prosecuted while free as the suspected perpetrator of arson in the village of Drizë, Fier.

Investigations suggest the spread of the fires set by these citizens damaged forested areas, agricultural land, fruit trees and olive groves, and created danger for homes and buildings near the fire-affected zones, mainly in Drizë and the Apollonia area.

The procedural materials have been referred to the Prosecution at the Fier Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction for further action.”
