First 5 Kilometers of Kragujevac Bypass Open — Vučić: “A Real Victory for Serbia”
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced today the opening of the first five kilometers of the expressway — the bypass around Kragujevac. He toured the new section, saying it will improve Šumadija’s connectivity, increase traffic safety and reduce heavy traffic through the city.
“Here we are at the bypass around Kragujevac, the first five kilometers, opening now. It looks fantastic. Look at our beautiful Šumadija,” Vučić said during the visit. The route includes the Petrovac–Jovanovac interchange, with connections to the industrial zone and Cvetojevac, while the bypass will link the directions from Batočina and Lapovo, through Kragujevac, toward Gornji Milanovac.
He stressed that a significant share of heavy traffic will use the new route instead of city streets. “Many trucks will go through this bypass, they won’t enter Kragujevac,” Vučić said, joking about the guardrail along the expressway: if it holds him at 117–118 kilograms, it will also withstand a truck impact.
The Serbian president emphasized that domestic companies carried out the works on this section. “Our companies did this. For the first time, Serbian companies have built an expressway,” he said, adding that overpasses and underpasses were also built as part of the project. The full northern bypass around Kragujevac is about 22 kilometers long. “I am very happy for Kragujevac, very happy for Šumadija,” Vučić concluded.
