General Staff: Russia has lost 1,514,910 soldiers in Ukraine since February 24, 2022 — 1,420 in the last day

Russian losses in Ukraine have reached around 1,514,910 soldiers since the start of the full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, Ukraine’s General Staff of the Armed Forces reported on September 18; 1,420 of them were inflicted in the last 24 hours.

According to the Ukrainian staff’s daily report, Russia has also lost 12,351 tanks, 25,352 armored fighting vehicles, 150,442 vehicles and fuel tankers, 49,938 artillery systems, 2,141 multiple-launch rocket systems and 1,646 air-defense systems. The tally also includes 442 aircraft, 356 helicopters, 2,656 ground-based unmanned systems, 35 ships and boats, and two submarines.

Ukraine’s General Staff has not disclosed its own losses, citing operational secrecy. Data on the adversary’s losses in war are often difficult to verify independently.

Independent Western reports agree that Russian losses significantly exceed Ukrainian ones. The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) estimates the ratio at “around 2.5:1 or 2:1.” According to a CSIS report from January 2026, Ukraine has suffered perhaps 500,000 to 600,000 losses from February 2022 to December 2025, of which 100,000–140,000 were killed in combat.

President Volodymyr Zelensky told France TV on February 4 that at least 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in combat since the start of the war, plus many more missing.
