The allegations that shook Halle Berry, the court decides on the meetings with her son

Halle Berry was seen with her 12-year-old son, Maceo, over the weekend, at a time when the actress’s family is facing a legal conflict with her ex-husband, Olivier Martinez.
According to a witness cited by PEOPLE, the 60-year-old actress and her fiancé, Van Hunt, visited a park in Los Angeles on Sunday, 4 October, together with Maceo.
Berry and her son were seen talking before the 12-year-old started playing football in the indoor facilities. Meanwhile, Berry and Hunt stayed close to him, watching him.
According to the witness, the actress tried to stay out of the spotlight and at one point politely refused a fan who asked her for a selfie, telling him she was there with her son.
“She was quite reserved,” the witness said, adding that Berry and Hunt mostly stayed on their phones and occasionally talked.
The actress’s public appearance comes just a few days after Martinez, 59, obtained a temporary protection order on 1 October, which limits the time Berry can spend with their son until the court hearing on 16 October.
Currently, Berry’s visits with Maceo are limited to Mondays and Tuesdays, as well as Saturdays and Sundays, from 10:00 to 20:00.
However, the judge did not accept Martinez’s request to completely bar Berry from contact with her son, while he has requested sole custody.
In documents filed in court, Martinez has claimed that Berry “physically abused” their son during an incident on 26 September. According to him, the actress allegedly “jumped on him, put her hands around his neck and choked him.”
Berry has strongly denied these allegations.
Her lawyer, Marina Beck, has described the claims as “completely unfounded and deliberately misleading.”
“Berry is deeply saddened, but will not let this stop her from fighting for Maceo’s best interest and giving him the love and support he needs,” the lawyer declared.
Meanwhile, California family law attorney Christopher C. Melcher explained to PEOPLE that the temporary order does not mean the court has decided the allegations are true.
“The temporary order is not a decision on the merits of the case. It is simply a measure to maintain distance and create a cooling-off period until the hearing where findings can be made,” he explained.
The next hearing is scheduled for 16 October, while if the temporary order is turned into a permanent order, it could last from one month to five years.
