Germany – Support for Merz at a record low, only 10%
BERLIN, October 1 /ATSH-DPA/ – Support for German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has fallen to the lowest level recorded in the history of the public broadcaster ARD’s poll, dating back to 1997.
Only 10% of respondents say they are satisfied or very satisfied with his work, while 88% are little or not at all satisfied.
At the beginning of September, support for Merz’s work stood at 13%.
According to the poll by the Infratest dimap institute, conducted with 1,303 eligible voters, Merz’s CDU/CSU alliance of parties has also fallen.
If parliamentary elections were held on Sunday, the CDU/CSU would receive 20% of the vote.
The AfD would receive 27%, followed by the Greens with 16% and the SPD with 13%.
The Left Party would receive 11%, while the FDP would get 4%, below the 5% threshold needed to enter the Bundestag.
Among government politicians, Defence Minister Boris Pistorius enjoys the highest support.
According to the poll, 50% of respondents say they are satisfied with his work.
Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has 34%, while Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt has 27%.
The poll measures respondents’ attitudes at this moment and does not constitute an election result.
