Gjekmarkaj: The new US ambassador will put Albania back on track; they are shocked by the corruption

Democratic Party MP Agron Gjekmarkaj says the new U.S. ambassador to Albania, Eric Wendt, could influence the country’s return to constitutional normality.

Invited to the “Puls” show moderated by Bruna Çifligu, Gjekmarkaj described Wendt’s appointment as a mark of appreciation that President Donald Trump’s administration has shown to Albania.

According to him, the experience and authority of the new ambassador, together with what he calls a new American policy toward Albania, could bring a new approach to the country.

Gjekmarkaj said the investigations against the former head of the SHISH in Albania must have shocked the FBI and U.S. law enforcement agencies.

“The new U.S. ambassador is a personality, a general, who has led troops on hot fronts of conflict. It is a mark of appreciation shown to Albania by President Trump’s administration. I think his authority and personality, but also the new American policy, which sees Albania as a friendly and allied country, will influence Albania’s return to constitutional tracks, to normality. Bodies like the FBI and others operate, they have relations, I think, they have relations with the security bodies in Albania. They must be shocked about what has happened at these levels, because it is unusual. It is as if the head of the CIA cooperated with a high-ranking criminal, or was controlled by organized crime — what has happened in Albania,” said Gjekmarkaj.
