Haxhiu: UCCK Emergency filled with injured protesters
The Emergency Department of the University Clinical Centre of Kosovo (UCCK) has been filled with injured protesters, following the escalation of the situation during the protest in Pristina.
This was announced by the Minister of Health, Arben Vitia, through a post on social media, where he stated that the protesters who were injured during the clashes with the police are receiving medical treatment.
“The Emergency Department of UCCK is filled with injured protesters. Our medical teams are working without interruption to provide them with the necessary care,” Vitia wrote.
He also thanked the medical staff for their dedication and professionalism in dealing with this emergency situation.
“I thank the medical teams for their dedication and professionalism. We are following the situation closely and will provide all the necessary support,” the minister added.
Earlier, the Kosovo Police announced that several officers were also injured during the protest, while several protesters were arrested.
The protest, organised by veterans’ associations and family members of martyrs, was held to demand the adoption of the law on the protection of the values of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).
The situation escalated after protesters attempted to enter the Kosovo Assembly building, prompting the police to intervene with tear gas and water cannons.
According to the police, the intervention was necessary to maintain public order and to prevent the protesters from entering the institution.
However, the organisers of the protest accused the police of using excessive force against peaceful protesters.
“The police used violence against citizens who were protesting peacefully for a just cause,” the organisers said in a statement.
The protest continued for several hours, with demonstrators demanding that the Assembly vote on the law as soon as possible.
