Emily Blunt joins Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro in “Sicario 3”: Padraic McKinley to direct, Steven Knight to write
Emily Blunt will return to the world of “Sicario”. The actress has joined the cast of “Sicario 3”, the third instalment of the successful franchise, where she will star again alongside Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro, as Parade announces, according to Deadline’s exclusive reporting on Monday.
Blunt’s return is big news for fans of the franchise, as the actress had been absent from the second sequel of 2018, “Sicario: Day of the Soldado”, in which only Brolin and del Toro returned. The first film, “Sicario” (2015), directed by Denis Villeneuve with a screenplay by Taylor Sheridan, was a surprise success that has won an ever-growing following over the years, thanks also to streaming platforms.
“Sicario 3” will be directed by Padraic McKinley, while the screenplay is written by Steven Knight, an Oscar nominee. The plot details of the film are still being kept secret.
The news comes at a hot moment for all three actors: Blunt recently appeared in the summer hit “The Devil Wears Prada 2” and is said to have finished filming “A Quiet Place Part 3”; Brolin will next be seen in 20th Century’s “Whalefall”, which premieres on October 16; while del Toro comes off an Oscar nomination as supporting actor for “One Battle After Another”.
