Haradinaj calls for MPs to return to the Assembly: Kurti and LVV’s walkout is “desertion”
The former chairman of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Ramush Haradinaj, has called on Prime Minister Albin Kurti and the MPs of the Vetëvendosje Movement to return to the Assembly of Kosovo and vote in the second reading the Law on the Specialist Chambers.
Haradinaj criticised the MPs’ walkout from the session, describing it as “desertion,” at a time when the country is facing protests and tensions.
“Kurti, the MPs of the Vetëvendosje Movement and all MPs should return to the Assembly. Let us vote on the Law on the Specialist Chambers in the second reading and return to the state agenda, as befits us as MPs,” Haradinaj declared.
According to him, walking out of the Assembly in such a situation is not reasonable.
“Kurti’s walkout, Vetëvendosje’s walkout, hiding, is equal to desertion today. Deserters always find reasons and motives, lean on or hide behind many causes, but today is not the day to run away from the Assembly of Kosovo, when we also have citizens in protest,” he said.
Haradinaj also criticised the use of tear gas by the Kosovo Police during the protests. He described as condemnable the situation in which, according to him, the police are confronting the country’s citizens.
“Kurti’s and the Vetëvendosje Movement’s hiding, the use of the police to disperse protesters with tear gas and the creation of a situation such as the one we are seeing in this city, where the Kosovo Police are confronting their own brothers and sisters, the citizens of this country, is truly condemnable,” Haradinaj said.
He called on the MPs to return to the Assembly and fulfil their constitutional obligations.
“Therefore, in such a situation, those who still have a conscience should call on them to return to the Assembly. Let us vote on the Law on the Specialist Chambers and return to the state agenda,” he declared.
Haradinaj assessed that the interruption of the session and the MPs’ walkout are happening at a critical moment for the country, given also the constitutional deadline for electing the president.
“There is no logic in interrupting the session and the MPs running away when there are only a little more than 24 hours left from the constitutional deadline for resolving the president issue as well,” Haradinaj said.
In the end, he repeated his stance that the country could head towards elections, saying he had warned of this scenario earlier as well.
“It is true and I have always warned that Kurti and Vetëvendosje are taking the country to elections,” Haradinaj declared, as Telegrafi reports.
