Nations League: Montenegro the only team with a 100% record in League C; Finland beat Albania 2:1
Montenegro is the only national team in League C of the Nations League still holding a perfect record after three rounds, as Vijesti reports — three wins, 9 points and top spot in group C2. The distinction of being the only side with a 100 per cent record was sealed only after all the third-round matches had finished, as the last possible rivals for the record lost it last night.
The “Falcons” secured their third win in a row last night in Riga, 2:1 against Latvia, thanks to a brace by the young midfielder Vasilije Adžić. He scored the first goal in the 3rd minute after a move started by captain Stevan Jović and a cross by Risto Radunović, and added the second midway through the second half with a powerful, precise shot under the bar; the hosts pulled one back late in the match.
In the group C1 derby in Helsinki, Finland came from behind to beat Albania 2:1 and take top spot. Albania took the lead through Rey Manaj’s goal in the 4th minute, but Leo Valta equalised in the 26th and turned the score around in the 71st; the red-and-blacks played with 10 men from the 22nd minute, after goalkeeper Etrit Berisha’s red card. Finland now lead with 7 points — they had earlier drawn with Belarus — while Albania remain second with 6.
The perfect record was also lost by the other League C teams: Slovakia were held to a 1:1 draw in the Faroe Islands in group C3, while Iceland had lost their record back in the first round with a home draw against Estonia in group C4.
Montenegro’s next match is on Monday, October 5, when they host Armenia in Podgorica — a chance to cement their lead in group C2.
