Herceg Novi: man arrested on suspicion of beating his father — police seize 10 weapons and 251 rounds

Herceg Novi police have arrested citizen G.M., suspected of domestic violence against his father, M.M., the Police Directorate announced.

According to the police statement, a search of the suspect’s apartment uncovered a “Brno” hunting rifle and a “Zastava” pistol with 2 rounds in the magazine, as well as 14 hunting rounds. These weapons, the statement notes, were legally owned but will undergo the administrative procedure for permanent confiscation.

In addition, 8 weapons — one pistol and 7 rifles — were seized from M.M., along with 235 rounds. Of these, 4 weapons were held with valid licenses, while 4 others had expired licenses. For the latter, according to the Police Directorate, a misdemeanor report will be filed.

Such cases are being handled with much stricter measures following the entry into force of the new weapons law, which provides for tougher conditions for the seizure and prohibition of weapons possession in cases of domestic violence. Under this law, police can urgently take the weapons if a family member’s safety is suspected to be at risk. In total, 10 firearms and 251 rounds of ammunition were seized during this operation.
