Highmark Stadium inaugurated with the Bills’ 41-31 win and a dominant Josh Allen performance

Highmark Stadium opened its doors for the first time for an official Bills game, and the hosts made the most of the moment. Josh Allen led a long 85-yard drive to open the gala with a one-yard quarterback sneak for a score, then delivered several of the evening’s key moments with passes and runs. His first-half action set the tone of the game as Buffalo took control from the first half.

As NFL reports, in the first half Allen recorded three touchdown passes and a rushing score, with 164 passing yards and 40 rushing yards; James Cook crossed the 100-yard mark before halftime, while the Bills piled up 299 net yards to take a 27-7 lead into the break.

Detroit looked tired after the tough game against the Saints just four days earlier. Jared Goff was pressured early, suffered two turnovers and was hit on many occasions, while Jahmyr Gibbs scored an 11-yard touchdown that came too late for the comeback attempt. Still, Dan Campbell’s team’s efforts were not enough to stop a highly motivated Bills; Cook finished with 135 yards and a touchdown, while Gibbs was largely kept in check (16 attempts for 52 yards).

By the end of the evening Allen closed with 248 passing yards and three passing touchdowns (20 of 31 passes), as well as two rushing touchdowns for 69 total yards — a performance that places him among the league’s most outstanding packages and joins him with Kordell Steward in the record for players with more than one game with at least three TD passes and two rushing TDs. For Detroit, the loss highlights the need to better manage Gibbs’ workload to avoid wearing out their star; according to NFL, this will be one of the key decisions for their season.
