Hollywood Star Arrested in New York at Protest Against Netanyahu

Oscar winner Susan Sarandon and “Hacks” star Hannah Einbinder were among those arrested at a protest against Benjamin Netanyahu in New York on Thursday.

Footage from Agence France-Presse (AFP) shows New York police officers handcuffing the “Thelma & Louise” star as the Israeli prime minister prepared to address the United Nations General Assembly. Hannah Einbinder was also at the protest, alongside “Saturday Night Live” star Sarah Sherman.

The protest was organized by the group “Jewish Voice for Peace,” and demonstrators carried signs reading “Stop arming Israel” and “Stop the genocide.”

An NYPD spokesperson said officers were responding to reports of an “unpermitted protest” during which participants blocked the intersection. “Members of the NYPD’s Community Affairs Bureau issued warnings and advised participants to leave the gathering area. They continued to block the intersection. Several individuals who failed to comply with orders were taken into custody,” the spokesperson said, without specifying the total number of arrests.

Among those detained were Democratic congressional candidate Darializa Avila Chevallier and New York City Council member Chi Osa.
