Kurti: We’ll Go to Elections If the President Is Not Elected

Prime Minister Albin Kurti said Friday that failure to elect a new president could lead the country to new elections, but stressed that such a scenario is unnecessary.

The statement was made during the meeting of the Ministerial Council for European Integration, where Kurti said the current Assembly could give the country a president. “If we do not manage to elect a new president, we will go to elections. New elections are unnecessary. We have an Assembly and this Assembly can give the country a president. We must understand that in Kosovo there are no presidential elections. Why go back to elections to constitute an Assembly that cannot elect a president?” Kurti said.

He referred to the Constitutional Court’s decision, according to which the deadline for electing the President expires on October 6.
