DPA partners with Chinese archives on digitization and enrichment of documents

As part of the General Directorate of Archives’ efforts to expand relations with international institutions and partners, its head, Auron Rrokaj, held a meeting with the ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Tirana, Pang Chunxue.

At the center of the talks was building bridges of cooperation between the counterpart archives of Albania and China, building on the traditional friendly relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, a number of areas of mutual interest were discussed, including the exchange of experiences and documents, the organization of joint cultural activities, advancing the digitization of archival documents, and developing and growing the professional capacities of archive staff.

In this context, Rrokaj had earlier also held meetings with the deputy chief of mission of the United States of America in Albania, Kathryn Hammond, as well as with religious leader Mark Allyn Bragg and representatives of the “FamilySearch” program. The latter has contributed to offering the public opportunities to search and trace genealogical data.

The focus of the DPA’s work also remains enriching the Albanian archival fund and creating new opportunities for research in the field of Albanology. In this direction, representatives of the institution have taken steps to secure documents and archival materials of interest for Albanian history and studies.

The DPA says that cooperation with counterpart archives and international institutions aims to expand the exchange of information, preserve and make historical documentation more accessible, and create new opportunities for researchers and the public.
