EU Ambassador to Tirana meets SPAK chief Klodian Braho; focus of talks revealed

The European Union’s new ambassador to Albania, Sofia Moreira de Sousa, held her first official meeting with the head of the Special Prosecution (SPAK), Klodian Braho.

The meeting focused on strengthening the fight against organized crime and high-level corruption, as part of consolidating the rule of law in Albania.

In a statement, the EU Delegation in Tirana said Moreira de Sousa reaffirmed the European Union’s support for an independent and efficient SPAK.

“SPAK’s work against organized crime and high-level corruption is essential for strengthening the rule of law in Albania,” the statement said.

After the meeting, the EU’s new ambassador said support for the Special Prosecution would continue in the future.

“In my first meeting with the head of the Special Prosecution, Klodian Braho, I reaffirmed the EU’s continued and unwavering support for an independent and efficient SPAK,” she said.

According to Moreira de Sousa, concrete results in tackling organized crime and high-level corruption also matter for Albania’s EU integration process.
