Integration / Rama: The closing of chapters with the EU will begin before the end of this year
At the joint conference with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Prime Minister Edi Rama declared that Albania is preparing to begin closing its negotiation chapters with the European Union before the end of this year.
“I believe that once again, on this visit to Tirana by the president and her delegation, there is much positive content in relation to the shared objectives we have. I want to confirm once again publicly our iron will to move forward with all the work of a process that has now entered the chapter-closing phase; we are preparing to start closing chapters soon, specifically before the end of this year, and then to continue intensively with a considerable part of them now open,” Rama said.
The prime minister stressed that von der Leyen’s visit to Tirana brings positive content for the shared objectives and confirmed the Albanian government’s strong commitment to accelerating the membership process.
He also praised the achievements under a special programme and described the Growth Plan as one of the innovations of the European Commission president’s second term.
“On the other hand, I want to say that I am very glad that, under a special programme, we have managed to reach some extremely ambitious objectives. The Growth Plan is one of the innovations of her second term. An innovation that has come to the region as very great support,” Rama underlined.
