Von der Leyen: Albania has worked hard toward EU integration

During the joint press conference with Prime Minister Edi Rama, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed her pleasure at returning to Tirana, praising the work Albania has done in meeting European standards.

Regarding progress in the negotiation process and the mutual benefit of this process, the head of the European Commission declared:

“You and Albania have worked hard to meet the European standard. Albania has again made fantastic progress; you opened the final cluster chapters, in July you closed the first 3 chapters. I assure Albanians: membership will not only make Albania stronger, but also the EU stronger.”

Beyond the achievements so far, von der Leyen underlined that the road to membership requires continuity in implementing essential reforms across all the open chapters, including the protection of the environment and the country’s natural assets.

According to her, achieving sustainable change requires cooperation that crosses traditional political boundaries.

“This requires genuine commitment beyond political divides and dialogue with society to respond to all its concerns,” she said.
