Cuadrado returns to Colombia, but the welcome is brutal
After 17 years in Italy, Juan Cuadrado has returned to his homeland, Colombia. The former Fiorentina and Juventus player signed a contract with Millionarios, a team in Colombia’s first division, two weeks ago, and his “new” baptism of fire came in a very special match for the 38-year-old. However, his return home was not the best.
Despite some past statements hinting at a return to Independiente Medellín, the club that launched him into the professional ranks, the former Juventus and Fiorentina player ultimately chose Millionarios, their sworn rivals.
A decision his former fans did not appreciate, and coincidentally, his first match since returning home was against his former team. The result? 57 minutes of whistles and insults at every touch of the ball, and a banner reading: “Today Judas visits us. The traitor.” The match, valid for the fourth day of Colombia’s Primera A Clausura, saw the teams in a thrilling 2-2 draw.
