The European Union intergovernmental conference, at which Montenegro is expected to close further negotiation chapters for membership, will not be held this month within the EU General Affairs Council.
An EU official said intensive work is underway to approve the closure of new chapters, but internal procedures in some member states have not been completed.
According to him, the process is almost complete and the delay is mainly related to lack of time. The next intergovernmental conference could be held in mid-October in Luxembourg.
Montenegro has so far provisionally closed 18 of the 33 negotiating chapters, while Minister of European Affairs Maida Gorčević has announced that positions for nine more chapters have been sent to Brussels, while the remaining six are expected to be sent by the end of the year.
