Iran: Attending the UN General Assembly Is Our Right — US Confirmed the Visas

Iran’s Foreign Ministry declared that participation in the UN General Assembly in New York next week is Tehran’s right, after the United States confirmed granting visas to the Iranian delegation.

“Travel to New York has no attraction for Iranian diplomats, but it is a bastion that must not be abandoned,” spokesman Esmail Baghaei said, according to the Iranian news agency ISNA. “Participation in the UN summit is our right and in this gathering we must proclaim loudly the justice of the Iranian nation.”

Baghaei stressed that the trip “must not convey any signal that the enemy can interpret as a sign of weakness on our part” and that the only message must be one reflecting “the true power and authority of Iran.”

The statement comes as UN findings suggest the American attacks in Minab could constitute war crimes — a development expected to set the tone of the Iranian delegation’s speeches in New York.
