Israeli Strikes in Southern Lebanon Hit Paramedics: Two Bombings in Nabatieh, Ambulance Crew Also Targeted
Two Israeli airstrikes hit one after the other the town of Nabatieh in southern Lebanon on Saturday evening, while a third strike hit the ambulance crew responding to the attacks, directly targeting paramedics. The news was reported in Al Jazeera’s live coverage of the war, with no details yet on the number of casualties.
The strikes on Nabatieh are part of a new wave of Israeli bombings in southern Lebanon on Saturday. Earlier in the day, Israeli jets carried out an airstrike on the outskirts of the town of Sarbin, near Haris in the Bint Jbeil district, while a heavy bombardment completely destroyed a house between Haddath and Haris, accompanied by artillery shelling on the outskirts of Haddath, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency.
Lebanese authorities have repeatedly said many of the victims of Israeli strikes are civilians, while the Israeli military typically claims it targets Hezbollah fighters and infrastructure. The escalation on the Lebanese front is unfolding in parallel with the U.S.–Iran war, with Israel intensifying operations in southern Lebanon in recent weeks.
Saturday’s strikes add pressure on diplomatic efforts to de-escalate regional tensions, at a time when Tehran says its conditions for ending the war — including a halt to fighting on all fronts — have been conveyed to Washington through Qatari mediation.
