Janović: A government–opposition agreement is needed for Montenegro’s European path
Independent MP Nikola Janović told RTCG’s morning programme that Montenegro’s European path requires an agreement between the government and the opposition, as RTCG reports. He blamed the governing majority for the opposition’s lack of cooperation, saying the majority had behaved irresponsibly and broken agreements with an opposition that in past years supported Montenegro’s membership of the European Union.
Janović added that the opposition, too, should not be exclusive, and that talks should be held on the key topics for closing the negotiation chapters. He said he expects the situation to be resolved in the coming days.
“I think all of us — those of us in opposition, the government, and the European Union — must do our part so that Montenegro becomes the next member, the 28th member of the European Union; that is what the majority of citizens want,” Janović said.
He criticized the majority’s behaviour as arrogant, stressing that democracy is not rule by the majority, but rule of law.
