Jordan Condemns Houthi Ballistic Missile Attack on Riyadh: “Flagrant Violation”
Jordan has condemned the Houthi ballistic missile attack that targeted the Saudi capital, Riyadh, which, according to Amman, Saudi air defenses intercepted and destroyed, Al Jazeera reports.
In a statement, Jordan’s Foreign Ministry also condemned what it described as Houthi attempts to strike civilians and civilian facilities in Bisha, Taif, Farasan and Yanbu. The ministry called the attacks “flagrant violations,” while spokesperson Fouad al-Majali said Jordan stands in “absolute solidarity” with Saudi Arabia.
The condemnation comes at a critical moment in the escalation between the Houthis and Riyadh. The Iranian-backed group has intensified missile and drone attacks on Saudi cities, while the Saudi-led coalition has intensified airstrikes in Yemen. On Saturday the Saudi military said air defenses had intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile fired by the Houthis toward Riyadh — a development that set off alarms across the Saudi capital for the first time since the escalation began in July.
The escalation is widening the global energy crisis: attacks on the strategic Saudi East–West pipeline and the partial blockade of the Strait of Hormuz have pushed oil prices to record levels, while diplomatic talks on reopening the strait are stalled.
