Judges’ criminal complaint: SPAK opens investigation into magistrates’ pay case, seizes documents at the Finance Ministry

The Special Prosecution Against Corruption and Organized Crime, SPAK, has opened an investigation into the case of magistrates’ salaries.

As part of the investigation, documents have reportedly been seized at the Ministry of Finance.

Judges filed a criminal complaint with SPAK over the non-execution of judges’ and prosecutors’ salaries for August 2026.

The complaint asks the prosecution body to investigate the circumstances created and to identify the person or persons who made, transmitted or implemented the decision-making that led to the withholding of salaries.

Among the persons named in the complaint is Finance Minister Petrit Malaj.

The complaint stresses that the situation does not affect a single magistrate, but a considerable number of judges and prosecutors across the country.

According to the complaint, the aim is for the prosecution to determine individual responsibility for the concrete actions or omissions that led to the non-execution of salaries.
