Kekoviq: We are not giving up the 100-euro coefficient — the ‘Euro model’ must be sustainable
The secretary general of the Union of Free Trade Unions of Montenegro, Srđa Kekoviq, has said unions are not giving up the demand to raise the coefficient calculation value from 90 to 100 euros, starting with October salaries. According to him, this is an increase of about 10 to 12 percent, which workers have been expecting for months.
Speaking on Radio Montenegro, Kekoviq recalled that since April 30 the country no longer has a General Collective Agreement, a gap affecting more than 100,000 employees. He added that the line minister told union representatives the government is ready to accept the demand for the 100-euro coefficient.
Regarding the so-called “Euro model,” Kekoviq praised it as a great benefit for employees, but warned the state must prevent price increases, as happened after the “Europe Now 1 and 2” programs. According to him, the model must be sustainable and not become a burden on the economy.
Unions also oppose any equalization of salaries, citing as an unacceptable example the situation where three different minimum wages would be equalized. If social partners do not reach agreement, the solution, according to Kekoviq, is for the Assembly to include workers’ rights directly in the Labor Law.
