Kurti receives congratulatory letter from U.S. congressman George Latimer: deal needed on the new president
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has received a congratulatory letter from U.S. Congressman George Latimer on the occasion of the constitution of the Assembly, the formation of the Government and the start of the new governing mandate, as Klan Kosova reports.
In the letter, Congressman Latimer expressed readiness to cooperate closely with Kurti and Kosovo’s institutions in advancing shared values, including democracy, the rule of law and economic prosperity. “As you begin your fourth mandate as Prime Minister, I look forward to working closely with you and your colleagues…,” the letter quoted by Klan Kosova says.
A special part of the letter is devoted to the election of Kosovo’s new president. According to Klan Kosova’s reporting, Latimer encouraged all political parties in Kosovo to return to the negotiating table to reach a deal on the new President, so as to avoid another costly cycle of parliamentary elections.
He stressed that open dialogue and inter-party cooperation on issues of national interest are essential for the progress of a democratic society, referring also to the experience of the United States, Klan Kosova reports.
Recall that the post of Kosovo’s president is vacant, while according to the Constitutional Court’s decision, the 60-day deadline for electing him ends on October 6, 2026.
