Kurti: We support the Law on Speciale in first reading, but we are not convinced of its usefulness

Prime Minister Albin Kurti spoke in the Assembly session on the Draft Law on amending the Law on the Specialist Chambers, stressing that the war of the people of Kosovo was a liberation war and that its bearer was the KLA.

Kurti said the KLA was “the highest political-military expression in our liberation history”, adding that it was not only a response to the suppression of Kosovo’s autonomy in 1989, but also to what he described as Serbia’s genocide against Albanians.

He said citizens’ anger towards the Special Court is understandable and that this dissatisfaction, according to him, has been present since 2015, when the Specialist Chambers were established.

“Complaints about the court should be addressed to those who founded it, not to those who opposed it”, Kurti said.

The prime minister declared that LVV had earlier supported the Assembly’s resolution and that today it is also supporting the Draft Law in first reading.

“We supported you with the resolution in the Assembly, today we are also supporting you with the vote in first reading”, he said.

Kurti said that whenever it comes to issues affecting the country’s interest, LVV MPs, according to him, have shown they can act beyond political differences.

“Nevertheless, he stressed that LVV is not convinced of the draft law’s usefulness.

“We are not convinced of the usefulness of this Draft Law. You have told us that the defence teams also support it, so we are supporting it too”, Kurti declared.

“In his speech, Kurti called on MPs to take into account during the vote not only the reasons that push them to vote in favour, but also the effects such a decision may have in the future.

“You should keep in mind not only the cause that pushes you to vote today, but also the consequences this vote may produce tomorrow”, Kurti said, as Telegrafi reports.
