Late Jamal Thiaré goal settles it as Columbus Crew stun Inter Miami 2–1
Columbus Crew pulled off a dramatic 2-1 win over Inter Miami, thanks to a Jamal Thiaré goal in the final minutes of stoppage time that sealed the comeback. Inter had taken the lead from a Josef Martínez penalty, but Lionel Messi later equalized with a beautiful free kick, before Thiaré decided the outcome at the death.
As mlssoccer reports, the match was played before a record crowd at ScottsMiracle-Gro Field, 21,188 in attendance, and the win gave the Crew back-to-back league victories for only the second time this season. With this result the team moved within four points of ninth place in the Eastern Conference, the position that sends them to the Audi 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs.
Acting head coach Laurent Courtois stressed the importance of the performance ahead of the short seasonal break and said the victory would give the players confidence. In the post-match comments, the goalscorer appeared emotional and thanked the fans for their continued support, saying their energy made the difference in the key moments.
According to mlssoccer, in addition to the push to climb the standings and keep pace at the season’s end, Columbus will host St. Louis CITY SC in the US Open Cup final on October 21, while the near future includes a trip to Orlando City on October 10, where they will also face Antoine Griezmann.
