Memorial academy for Afrim Bunjaku: Kurti demands justice for Radoičić, Haxhiu says Police prevented the annexation of the north

Tonight (September 24, 2026), at the Red Hall of the Youth Palace in Pristina, a memorial academy was held marking the third anniversary of the death in the line of duty of Kosovo Police sergeant Afrim Bunjaku, killed on September 24, 2023 in Banjska during the attack of a Serb paramilitary group led by Milan Radoičić.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti said the September 24, 2023 aggression was an attempt backed by Serbia to undermine Kosovo’s sovereignty and territorial integrity: “The paramilitary attack of September 24 in Banjska three years ago was carried out by a group of terrorists supported, financed, trained and instructed by the state of Serbia, led by Milan Radoičić.”

Kurti stressed: “Three years after the Banjska attack, Milan Radoičić and the other members of the paramilitary terrorist group continue to be sheltered by the president of Serbia, who offers them protection and services. They must face justice in Kosovo and be tried for the militarily-scaled organized attack against our state and the murder of Afrim Bunjaku. We will not stop until there is justice.”

Acting president Albulena Haxhiu recalled that the aim of the attack was not only against the police: “The aim was not only the attack on the Kosovo Police, but the detachment of a part of the territory of the Republic of Kosovo and its union with Serbia. This aim was also established this year by the Basic Court in Pristina through its verdict in the Banjska case.”

Haxhiu added: “The attempt to detach and annex the north failed thanks to the courage, professionalism and determination of the Kosovo Police,” recalling that Bunjaku had 22 years of experience in the police and 16 years of service as a sergeant.
