Mërtiri: Negligence over the AKSHI data leak led to this situation at SHISH
Appearing on the “Real Story” program on ABC News, analyst Ergys Mërtiri raised questions about the effectiveness and oversight mechanisms of the state for preventing scandals in intelligence institutions such as the State Intelligence Service (SHISH).
Mërtiri criticized the lack of institutional oversight, stressing that such cases show a lack of seriousness in national security management.
He pointed out that the failure to treat previous data leaks seriously, such as the one at the National Agency for Information Society (AKSHI), created the conditions for similar events to be repeated. According to the analyst, the state must have strong verification filters to avoid compromising security through the actions of certain leaders or officials.
“Institutions like SHISH cannot afford for their head to go mad and do whatever they want. The question remains: do Rama and the entire Albanian state have no mechanisms to verify this?
Here I begin to doubt the seriousness with which they take the state. This is not an isolated case. The institutions themselves should have prevented this.
This is the second time the Security Council has convened, again linked to Agasi. Institutions must have control mechanisms. If the AKSHI data leak had been taken seriously, we would not have come to this second one,” Mërtiri said.
