Milatović at the UN: Israelis deserve permanent security, Palestinians dignity, freedom and their own state
The Mission of the State of Palestine to the United Nations published excerpts of Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović’s speech at the General Debate of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, where the Montenegrin head of state spoke about the situation in Gaza and the need for a just and lasting peace, as Vijesti reports.
Milatović stressed that the responsibility of the international community begins with protecting human lives and respecting international humanitarian law. “Civilians must be protected, and humanitarian aid must reach those who need it most safely and without obstacles,” he was quoted as saying, according to Vijesti.
“Israelis deserve permanent security. Palestinians deserve dignity, freedom and a stable state of their own,” the Montenegrin president said in his speech.
He reiterated Montenegro’s position in favor of a two-state solution reached through negotiations, in which Israel and an independent and stable Palestine would live side by side in peace, security and mutual recognition.
