Milatović at the Vatican with Cardinal Parolin: opening of an apostolic nunciature in Podgorica would strengthen ties with the Holy See
PODGORICA, October 4 – The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, met at the Vatican with the Secretary of State of the Holy See, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, as the Montenegrin public broadcaster RTCG reports.
The meeting discussed the further strengthening of relations between Montenegro and the Holy See, as well as concrete directions of cooperation.
According to RTCG, special attention was paid to continuing the activities for the opening of the Apostolic Nunciature in Podgorica, which would serve as a contribution to stronger institutional ties between the two sides.
“Our relations have deep historical roots, but we want to strengthen them further through concrete results and stronger institutional cooperation. The opening of the Apostolic Nunciature in Podgorica would be an important step in this direction,” Milatović said during the meeting.
The two sides also discussed, according to the announcement, cooperation in the field of culture and the protection of the rich cultural and sacral heritage, as well as the importance of interreligious dialogue, peace and mutual respect.
Milatović stressed that Montenegro, as a multiethnic and multiconfessional state, particularly values the contribution of the Catholic community.
During the meeting, the Montenegrin president gifted Cardinal Parolin an artwork featuring the detail of the antependium of the Cathedral of St. Tryphon in Kotor, a symbol of the centuries-old spiritual and cultural tradition of the Bay of Kotor, RTCG reports.
