Milatoviq on an official visit to the Holy See: audience with Pope Leo XIV on Saturday
Montenegro’s President Jakov Milatoviq will travel on Saturday, 3 October, on an official visit to the Holy See, where he will be received in audience by Pope Leo XIV and will meet the Holy See’s most senior officials. The news was announced today by the Public Relations Office of the President of Montenegro, as Vijesti writes.
According to the announcement of the President’s Office, the talks will focus on further improving relations between Montenegro and the Holy See, preserving peace and the importance of mutual respect and understanding.
The visit is given special significance by the fact that this year marks 140 years since the signing of the Concordat between the Principality of Montenegro and the Holy See — only eight years after international recognition at the Congress of Berlin, one of the first agreements of its kind that the Holy See has concluded with an Orthodox state.
According to the President’s Office announcement, this year also marks 20 years since the establishment of modern diplomatic relations, a moment that gives Saturday’s meeting a new historical dimension.
The official visit confirms the continuity of relations lasting almost a century and a half and opens space for their further strengthening, in a spirit of dialogue, peace and mutual respect.
