Montenegrin MFA Confirms German Embassy Note: Clarifications to Be Sought From Parliament

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro confirmed it has received a verbal note from the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany regarding the German diplomatic mission’s communication with the Parliament of Montenegro.

The ministry declined to comment on the content of the diplomatic communication, stressing that the direct communication of diplomatic missions with the institutions of the host country is a “standard segment of diplomatic practice”.

For any eventual clarifications, the MFA directed the questions to the Parliament of Montenegro, as the institution to which the communication was directly addressed.

In the background stands the announcement by DPS MP Ivan Vuković that the Parliament’s General Secretariat had rejected the German Embassy’s request to organize, on September 30, a meeting between Bundestag EU Affairs Committee chair Anton Hofreiter and the members of the parliamentary European Integration Committee.

The MFA also stressed that Montenegro and Germany have “very good and friendly relations”, including strong German support for Montenegro’s European path.
