Montenegro to Raise Wages From January, Minimum to Reach Up to €1,400

Montenegro’s Prime Minister, Milojko Spajić, has announced a significant wage increase in the public and private sectors starting in January, through the government’s new “EURO MODEL” program.

The net minimum wage for employees in positions requiring primary education or less will be €1,000, up from the current €600.

For employees with secondary education, the minimum wage will reach €1,250, up from the current €600. For jobs requiring higher education, it will be €1,400, up from the current €800.

Spajić also warned of a significant increase for wages currently above the minimum level. He gave the example of an employer allocating €1,980 for a net salary of €1,600. According to him, from January, at the same cost to the employer, the employee will receive €1,870.

Spajić said this salary could even exceed €2,000 if social partners accept the Government’s request. The proposal foresees the increase in the accounting value of the coefficient being applied equally in the public and private sectors.

The Montenegrin prime minister also announced a reduction in the tax burden on labor. This measure, according to him, aims to support employers.

From 2027, pensions are expected to be harmonized four times a year. The average pension in April will rise to over €600, while the minimum pension will exceed €500. Spajić announced that in December every pensioner will also receive an additional €100 winter bonus.
