Morata Holds Nothing Back: “I’ve Played for Many Clubs, but I Support Atlético Madrid”
Álvaro Morata was one of the best strikers in football for many years. The Spaniard played for many prestigious clubs, gaining top-level experience both with his teams and the Spanish national side. Over the course of his successful career, he worked with many coaches, including Antonio Conte.
In an interview with “El Partidazo de Cope”, he revealed anecdotes about his relationship with the Lecce-born coach, his loyalty to Atlético Madrid and his failed dream of playing for another European giant.
“I respect Conte, he is an excellent coach and an excellent man. We had some problems. That year was the World Cup and I had a small injury, which didn’t help me much. Everyone has their own personality and character, but I can’t say I had a good time under him.”
“I can say good things about two coaches, Mourinho and Simeone. They taught me a lot, both personally and professionally. It was a privilege for me to train under both. I will always be grateful to them.”
The Spaniard stressed that his loyalty has always remained with Atlético Madrid despite his move to rivals Real Madrid: “I don’t hide it, I am an Atlético Madrid fan and, as soon as I can, I will go watch their matches. I was also at Real Madrid and I will never forget it because it is one of the most important clubs in the world, but my loyalty remains the same. I have never hesitated to show my love for the Colchoneros.”
“A regret? First of all, I am grateful and happy to have been part of some of the biggest teams in Europe. But if I really have to say it, I would have liked to play for Bayern. I was close to moving to Germany more than once, but then we never spoke about it again. It’s a shame, I would have liked to compete with a team of that caliber.”
