Nea Ionia: 35-year-old bites off taxi driver’s ear after row over payment
In the early hours of Sunday, at around 01:10, on Demirdesiou Street in Nea Ionia, a shocking attack took place: a 35-year-old passenger attacked the 54-year-old woman driving the taxi, after he had got into the vehicle in Kypseli, as newsit.gr reports.
The cause of the row was the payment terminal (POS) not working. According to the driver, the passenger bit her on the face and on the right ear, tearing off part of the ear — she says she heard a “crack” at the moment of the attack, newsit.gr writes.
The woman managed to get out of the taxi and call for help. A passer-by intervened and held the attacker until the police arrived. EKAB took the driver to the “Elpis” hospital, where she is being treated for serious injuries.
Police from the DIAS unit arrested the 35-year-old and took him to the Nea Ionia police station. A case file has been opened against him for serious bodily injury and threats, and he is expected to appear before the prosecutor. The taxi driver, in her account, called on the Ministry of Transport to take safety measures for workers in this profession, according to Hellasjournal.
